Newport looks like it only has about six or seven sites -- right on the water -- is that right, or are other sites available somewhere else??

When we were hosting we really had no set time. If we were still up we checked you in. Usually that meant you could check in until 11:00p.m. or so. When we needed to be gone, there was always someone in the campground who would help get you set up. We would check you in the next morning if you were leaving before the office opened. Very seldom did we have to check anyone in beyond 9:00 p.m. Of course there was always the one exception as there is to every rule.

Intereesting Poll,
The Camp Host should not be the Camp Hostage.
Most RV'ers usually try to arrive in the early afternoon, and most military CG's are open till at least 1700, (5:00 PM for the military impared). What people don't understand is that camp hosts do more than just assign spots and take money. They are there to be able to answere a wide variety of questions either about the base and it operations or the local areas shopping and dining. And provide other services as may be needed.
2000 hours is a reasonable time to be responsive to the general public and still have personal time for them selves.
I agree that late arrivals should have after hour info about where to park and pay, no host needed for that.
Just my 3 cents worth
Frank
