Hi all,
I am new here, and not sure if this is where I need to be lol...:)

Our daughter is being transferred to Portsmouth in a few weeks to start AMLT training for a year...
I am wondering if as her parents we are able to stay at the military campground or does she have to be with us the entire time?? We would like to stay as close to her as possible, but not sure if we are allowed access to the cg being the parents, she is not married and we are her immediate family.

Also, on another note, I have noticed that the campground listings do not list the max size of rig..
Our's is 36 ft. 5th wheel and I'm afraid it wont fit into alot of these places...

Thanks for the heads up! :)

Hi Buffy,

Welcome to the group! :D Under the campground information pages, there's a section for "Authorized Users". Many military campgrounds allow guests. As with much in the military, this isn't standard everywhere. If guests are allowed, most likely your daughter can "sponsor" you onto the base and campground. She'll need to be with you when you check-in, so you can't just go to 'any' military campground in the USA. Depending on the campground, sometimes the sponsor just needs to sign you in, accepting responsibility for you. But at some military campgrounds, the sponsor also needs to be staying in the campground at the same time. Guests usually pay more than military,

Regarding sizes. A majority of the military campgrounds are "big rig" friendly. We've tried to include that information here, but we don't always get that info. Many people also have a difference of opinion on if a campground is big rig friendly. I can get my 36' MH in many places that someone with a 30' would complain is too tight. Read the reviews and look at the photos. That may give you an idea of the sizes. We've only been to about 40 military campgrounds, but never had one that couldn't fit our rig.

BUT.... on both of the above circumstances, CALL the military campground you're interested in. They can tell you their policy on guests, and if big rigs can get in.

Hi Larry,
thanks for all the information! We thought maybe thats the way it would be...
If we go and spend any quality time we were thinking the mcg's were the way to go..
It seems the regular campgrounds in and around the beach there are pretty steep!

Thanks again for all your help and even the help getting me in here! This is a great site and
cant wait to show the kid when she gets home on the 30th!

God Bless,

Buffy
