MCG Regs

There's a several posts popping up about the enforcement of MWR regulations ... and one is regarding the "length of stay" policy. Those regulations are in place for a reason, even if not routinely or "same interpretation" enforced. Here's one problem with changing the regs...
Assume MWR changed the regulations to allow long-term stay for AD with "hardship" stories. How many "hardship stories" do you think MWR would hear every day??? More than you can count, and as often as not "exaggerated" to some degree.
We all have hardships brought on by different situations in life and family choices ... and if AD or anyone else, (retired included) merely had to illustrate the family was under a hardship of some sort (different people consider different situations as hardships -- and not all personal interpretations of hardship are considered actual hardships by everyone) -- then we would eventually, over time, have AD living on the MCG's instead of working for housing through the base-housing component of the military.
Base housing and housing allowances are for AD ... Recreation facilites are for recreation for ALL military -- both retired and AD ... and I for one hope the two never get confused -- Many retired and AD abuse the rules for personal gain, but because it happens does not make it right, it just makes it "exist" and -- all of us, AD today and retired (Retired = the AD of yesterday BTW, for those that forget that definition) earned the benefit of recreation camping on MCG facilities ...
And one thing we need to remember here -- retired campers (as a general rule) abide by the length of stay policies ... and we (most of us anyway) don't ask for 'special treatment'. I personally think it's special enough that the MCGs exist at all. Remember, the 'special treatment' is requested only by those that want something different than the rules allow. And those requesting special treatment should remember that when you 'bark' your complaints.

Superb! Absolutely Superb! You are right. Anyone on AD should know the possible consequences of buying a house. Transfers are the way of the military. Buying a house is a big decision by anyone but even a bigger decision by an AD member because of transfers. Recreation facilities were designed to give AD, retired and DOD members a way to vacation in an area and pay a price commensurate with their military pay. It is not "Housing".
