The right People read this website, I know this because I see the discussions and comments and then I see the change.
I would like to start a discussion about a centralized reservation system for all Military CG.
I would like to see all CG take reservations. A private company could be hired to take the reservations. Simular to the ones that State Park CG use (reservation USA etc.) This would take the cost of the stay up but I would think it wouldn't be more than a few cents per day. A non refundable 2 day stay fee would slow no shows. A reservation system with a max stay rule would stop homesteaders if the reservation system was set up correctly.
The biggest advantage is to have a site when you get to the CG. And a end to the Good Old Boy Network.

It would be nice, but it is not going to happen. :'(
The five armed services can't even agree on radio frequencies and weapons. We could hope that one or more of the armed services would at least standardize reservations for "their" campgrounds - maybe with a standardized reservations system. :-
To save cost, I bet the system could be staffed with volunteers - although there would be some cost for the computer system.

Boy, don't let's get started on the reservation system for MCGs that is simialr to state parks etc. You can't make a reservation within certain time frame, can't make one within two days, have to pay a fee, can't go to the site directly and make a reservation -- I can continue until you guys quit reading ... you can't pick the site ... you can't know if it's big enough for your rig -- I'll stop here for now.
We have a state park right here in my home town -- we cannot go in a make a reservation onsite for anything longer than the day you are standing there at the desk. And anything else goes through the 'reserveamerica' site -- cost NINE DOLLARS to make a reservation even for ONE DAY. And this is right down the street from my home ... so a site that is $15 a day goes to $24 a day if you want to book a Saturday at the park in advance and you still can't pick your site.
So if you want to advocate reservations, let the actual MCG do it, or MWR at the relevant base -- every one has a computer now, no one does the "phone thing" much -- so get with the times and have the MCG host or the MWR do this -- it's part of the job. That's what the paycheck is for ... which probably surprises some of them ... others earn every dollar every week.

jazyn, you must not use the state park reservation system very often, especially here in Georgia. If so, you would never want the MCG to go to this type system. We have a State Park 9 miles from our house. I cannot make a reservation there unless I go online or on the phone for an hour or so. I think things are fine the way they are.

If the military got off their backsides they could do like KOA does. You can go online and not only make reservations but make sure that a site that fits your needs is available. But to ask that a common multi-military reservation system be available is just impossible. I think that the MCG's are low on their priority list and doesn't get the base commander any benny points. So each MCG is left to its own doing and as long as the base commander doesn't get a gaggle of people complaining then so be it.

Sure would be nice, but I agree the military, would not go along with it. Coast to Coast, also has a reservation system, you can use on line. We have used it many times, and have been happy they made this change several years ago.
