We have reciently traveled much of the area from up state NY over to ME and then back south. We went up I81 because we had been up I87 before and our goal on this trip was to stay on and explore the St. Lawrence. Near Pulaski, NY we stayed at the Brennan Beach RV Resort. (
www.brennanbeachrvresort.com/
). Very pricy but we wanted to stay right on the lake and they found one for us. The sun sets were worth every penny. Besides, the resort had a lot to offer and it was fun staying there.
From there we went on up and connected with NY37 and followed it along the river. There are some great parks there and we chose Coles Creek. ( nysparks.state.ny.us/parks/info.asp?parkId=156 ). Great site right on the water. The door on our 5th wheel was 20' from the water. Within 20 minutes I had caught a small mouth bass.
From there we went over to VT and connected up with US2 and proceeded to South Hero, VT where we stayed at the Apple Island Resort. ( www.appleislandresort.com/camp.html ). Although it may not be on their web site they take Passport America. Very nice well run resort style campground. There is a new well stocked country store and the nine hole golf course has been contracted out and people that had been there before told us the new management was100% better than the resort folks had been at running it. Very nice layout and reasonably priced. We spent a week there. Took boat rides on Lake Champlain, visited the University and did a lot of driving around. There is a city park in downtown Burlington that overlooks the lake that is a must see if you go there. Nice place to have a lunch and enjoy the sights.
From there we meandered over to West Ossipee, NH where my cousin and her husband are the owners/managers of Whit's End Campground. ( www.whitsendcampground.com/ ). Another pricy place but I had some advantage dickering with the owners. Great area to explore. Great train ride out of North Conway - make reservations - and there is a LL Bean outlet there. We only stayed a few days because we had been there a few times and had seen all except that great little golf course down the road a piece.
From here on into Maine you can expect to pay premium prices for all the campgrounds. Most are going to be in the $25 - $50 a day price range. The resorts will be more than that so do a lot of homework and shop around. About the best deals you will get will be for staying at least a week in one place because they will give you the seventh day free. Especially those connected with Good Sam.
I was born and raised in rural Maine so I have places there that I stop at because family is close by. We stay away from the toll roads when up in ME & NH so some of the places we stay at are off the beaten path. In Berwick, ME we stay at Beaver Dam Campground. ( www.beaverdamcampground.com/ ). Big rig friendly and family owned and operated as are most of the nicer campgrounds. On up the road in Alfred you will find Walnut Grove Campground. Another very nice family run campground. It's not listed as big rig friendly but it really is. Our 5er is 38' and there was at least 20 spots there where it would fit. If going up to look at the Bangor, Old Town & Orono area Christie's Campground is a nice stop over. ( www.hikercentral.com/campgrounds/105502.html ). Last one for this long review. Location for Bar Harbor is more exspensive the closer you get to it so we stay at Timberland Acres RV Park. ( www.timberlandacresrvpark.com/ ). Great family run park and within a mile of the Wal-Mart. We usually B-Line out of ME and stop in CT, but thats another story.

Another great commercial CG on the lake is Association Island near Watertown NY..
www.associationislandresort.com/
Association Island was a GE Corporate retreat and meeting center in the 20s & 30s, they have save several of the old buildings.. we had a great time there..
Tour the 1000 Islands while there..
Round Pond at West Point & Hanscom AFB near Boston are good stops (Round Pond CG is exponentially better) to refill the pantry at a commissary..
In Maine, we enjoyed Eastport..
eastportmaine.com/
Good, fair priced seafood.. 40 foot tides at the public wharf.. quiet a sight..

Have fun...
