I don't often get the chance to visit this site and catch up with what is going on throughout the FAMCAMP system.
But, since I recently returned home from filling for the camp host at Edwards, I thought I would take the time and fill everyone in with the current happenings their.
Management still isn't providing any cleaning supplies except bleach. Everything else needs to be bought buy the host and out of her pocket. One of the managers at Outdoor Rec has made several comments about full timers. She feels they are fools trying to milk the system. Getting an extension on the time limit due to medical problems is a pain. One man was denied an extension even though he was being treated for kidney stones until a retired full colonel requested and extension so his wife could get some much needed glasses. Before that management only comment was that the campground is not a hospital.
They are going to install a version of Astroturf that will need to be sprayed about twice a month. This will replace the grass that is currently growing there. Of course the tree trimming is left up to the host along with leaf raking and general grounds maintenance. In general, the camp ground is not supported in any of the ways you would expect. Seems no one their has figured out what a money tree the place could be.
However, on the bright side, some time around May they will be looking for a new host. You get paid enough to pay for you camp site.
