Here is a great web site to review if you are considering going to Mexico or Canada without a passport. Also new up to date information on the new Passport Card.

If you plan on getting your passport be prepared to wait. We applied 3mos ago and at that time the it was 4wks wait. After 5 wks we checked and ours hadn't been looked at yet and told us because of the number of passports being processed it would take 6 wks. So we waited 8 and checked only to find we still were not being processed and that because of the amount of passports it would take 10 wks. Well after 11 wks we are starting to get a little ticked off but according to their web site we were now being processed. We called the number on the web site and got the typical government run around. We asked if we could at least get our birth certificates back, they said yes but that would stop the process and we would have to start over. ??? So we are still waiting 15 wks and counting.
