D/M deserved the award, although it wasn't my #1 choice. I have stayed at 4 of the top 5 and I can see where it could be a close call.
Maybe you could consider doing "regional" awards.
It is my guess that many of the campers do not travel all over the US and are more regional,ie; east coast, west coast, mid west etc.
An overall top spot or "best of the best" would continue to spot light the No.1, but would also be a boost to other top MCG's to try harder.
Is there some type of standardized grading system that could be used so that each MCG got a "fair shake"?
Just some thoughts. It is hard to improve on a good thing (this web site is hard to beat), and this campers choice award is sure to be a goal for many MCG's.
Great work Larry.

We agree with Frank....Regional awards are a good idea, as lot of us don't get west of the Mississippi much....and didn't we have a "Most Improved" campground last year....Would like to see that added.

When full timing we wintered twice in Yuma, AZ and once in Southern, CA. So we went by Davis-Monthan AFB three times in both directions and were never able to stay there. The best we were ever offered was over flow out in the boonies and we passed on that. We were just passing by and would only stay a few days at the most. We liked the base and our FAMCAMP drive through was rewarding and that’s why we always tried to stay there. Played golf there a couple of times, great lay out. we have stayed in the Tucson area Twice (Prince of Tucson RV Park) for a week to visit the local sights.

We did have an issue with the pharmacy at Davis-Monthan AFB. When we tried to have our prescriptions refilled there they refused to transfer them for us. It‘s the only major base we ever visited to do that. I tried to take the issue up with the CO but was informed the decision was firm and they would not do out of area prescription transfers. So a few days later we got them transferred while at Fort Bliss, TX.

During our five years on the road we stayed at numerous Military Campgrounds all across the country and we have our favorites. For an extended stay we would take a few months at Admiral Baker in San Diego. For a nice easy quick stop it would be Fort Bliss. To just kick back and get away from the noise it would be a toss up between New Boston AFS and Grand Forks AFB. For super easy access to on base commissary and exchange shopping it would be Laughlin AFB, NAS Lemoore or NAS Jacksonville.

We would be hard pressed to choose our #1 favorite. Many of the campgrounds are similar to D-M so it becomes a numbers game from there. Why do you suppose places like MacDill & Key West were not selected? They are larger and have larger overflows and are always full in the winter time as is D-M.

I'm guessing it won because it gets the same voters each year ... and lots of us don't get to all MCGs for the obvious reasons ...

I'm thinking once a MCG has won the award, then it should be unable to win again. There are lots of good MCGs out there, and the smaller but well run ones should get a chance too, but has less voters due to size?? Maybe??

I fully agree with you about the not being able to get the award year after year. The one's who stay at DM every year or love it, just vote for it year after year. People get out and remind others to vote. It will continue year after year, if that continues to happen.
