Trip Planning was created by Don C
We are hoping to begin traveling early next year after living in a Corps of Engineers park and working as volunteers for over a year now. We prefer to plan our trips rather than "just take off" without destinations in mind. It would be good to stay at military campgrounds along the way. We would also consider working a few days per week at Corps parks and state and federal parks a few months at a time.
I know that there are sources for help with trip planning. Can anyone recommend one or more sources? Our general advice from your own travel experiences?

We use the Trailer Life Director on CD's and insert all of the FAMCAMPS. Works great.

This is a 4 month old topic but I'm adding a reply because the question relates to an answer I give frequently when someone asked about planning their RV trip either in my area or somewhere else I've been.
I have found that one of the best sources of information I can get to plan my touring is an official travel guide from the state(s) where I am going. They are free and each respective state will mail them to you. The package usually includes a current map which precludes having to buy one or stop at a rest area to pick one up.
I have also found that many of these guides include info on state parks and other campground info.

State provided maps and park info are usually current and adequately detailed. We have accumulated several already in anticipation of traveling in the NW USA. Thanks for the reply to the post. Good travels and happy holidays..

Hi Don, I’ve looked at this post a number of times wondering why there are so few responses. I’ve come to the conclusion that your request is just too vague. Before we retired we always planned our vacation trips because they were time restricted. After retirement and joining the ranks of the full time RVing gang we seldom did much trip planning. We have all the materials needed and all useful web sites are stored on our computers. Our planning was limited to arriving at places we had reserved. That was mostly for special occasions or places we wanted to be at for a few months. We always use Military Campgrounds whenever they are in our travel path. We avoid making reservation unless it becomes necessary. Seldom did we ever have the need to be at a particular place. We kind of look out in front of where we are for two or three hundred miles and pick an interesting place to explore and then look for Mom & Pop places that are not advertised but are friendly and clean. We are addicted to the full hook up life style and have never boon docked or spent a night in such places as Wal-Mart parking lots. We have never desired to do any work. We have enough vices to keep us busy. We do buy from yard sales, estate sales and flea markets for resale on eBay auctions. Small items with small profits but lots of fun. Fishing, Golfing and photography keep us pretty busy and kind of dictates our travel. Even now that we are part timing, our trip south this year will be to a fish camp in Florida for them big ole White Crappie.
