long term stays at MWR

Does DOD have a regulation concerning the length of stay at campgrounds or is this a "local command" issue?
Some that I have visited have a 30 day stay policy, while others have active duty personnel and retirees using the campsites their residence, building decks, patios, 100 gallon propane tanks, etc.
This seriously limits the availability of sites for weekend / weekly camper use.

Welcome to the forums!

Do a search in the forums for "homesteading" or "length of stay" and you'll find this is a very active topic!

Short answer - the Army does have a regulation limiting length of stay, but it's not adhered to. Each installation can establish their own length of stay limits. Many of us agree with you - a "RV Park" is for RECREATION, and a campground is for CAMPING - neither is for HOUSING.

However, long-term residents are a steady source of income to the facility.

My husband and I are full time RVers, and often stay at Military campgrounds. Since we have a 5th wheel, its not the easiest thing to move often. We like to stay in an area at least 1 month and often up to 3 months in order to really explore an area before moving on. We will never stay at a Military campground that has a 2 or 3 week limit, then move to dry camp, etc. That is just more monkeying around than my husband and I like to do with our rig. I don't feel you can explore an area adequately in 2 weeks. On the other hand, I don't believe unlimited stays are a fair solution in Military campgrounds since it does limit the availablilty for others to enjoy them. I would love to see a uniformity for length of stay be employed, maybe 3 months or even up to 6 months. Then at least a 1 month out of the park. I think this would give most people the opportunity to utilize the resources evenly. Just my opinion.
