Just would say, we love the website, ton of great current information from all. We are planning to pull our 5th wheel from Cape Cod to Florida (Eastern states) in Feb-Apr 2010. Wife and I are taking several months to travel & love fresh water fishing & kayaking. Trying to plan and locate good potential campgrounds with fishing amenities... Are there any recommended campgrounds from other camping/fishermen on this forum... thanks for any input... Happy trails

Only one I know of for sure is Grassy Pond in southern Georgia. It's the FamCamp run out of Moody AFB.

You might want to try Ft. Gordon's Pointes West Army Rec Area on Lake Thurmond (formerly Clarks Hill Lake). Good for bass, crappie, hybrids, bream, shellcracker, and stripers depending on time of the year. It's about 30 minutes northwest of Augusta, GA and about 15 miles easy drive off of I-20.

Ft. Stewart, GA Holbrook Pond Campground has a fishing pond at the campground and you also can fish at many other ponds on Ft. Stewart....Also you can surf and pier fish in the ocean at Tybee Island, GA. It's about 35 miles from Ft. Stewart....

At Foster Creek RV Park near Charleston, SC you will be able to launch your kayaks right there in the RV park. The water is brackish so anything can be caught. I’ve never put a boat in there but have explored it some and know the tributary in the RV Park leads to other waterways.

In Jacksonville, FL you have the RV Park at NAS Jacksonville. It is situated right on the St. Johns River and I’ve never thought about it before but I bet kayaks can be launched right there in the park. If not it’s less than a mile from the NAS’ full service marina.

Down the road less than 25 miles you will find Camp Blanding. The RV Park there is right on Kingsley Lake. It’s one of the largest crystal clear lakes in FL and offers all the kinds of the fresh water fish you are looking for.

A little farther south you will find Palatka, FL. From there you can take US-19 down to Rodman where you will find a COE campground right on Lake Ocklawaha. From that campground you can explore the Lake, upper portion of the Ocklawaha River or go below the dam and explore the lower portion of the river all the way to the St. Johns River.

If you really love your Kayaking and fresh water fishing the COE campground is the place to be at that time of year.

Have a great trip and if you want to come by and talk fishing holes I’ll be at the NAS Jacksonville RV Park from 28 Jan – 12 Jan and then will move to - www.pacettirv.com/ - for two months.

Thanks for the quick response... I will definitely plan our trip through these camping facilites...That's what is so great about RVing, my buddies will be pee green jealous when I send pictures of fish caught while they will bundled up and be looking at iced over ponds in Mass and NH...
