We are planning for a trip to New Orleans in March, and was wondering if anyone knows if Magnolia Shade RV Campground is back open? I know it was closed a year ago, but was hoping it would be reopened....Thanks, Any suggestions of other campgrounds would be appriciated as well.....Thanks

John, we are going to that area also towards the end of March for a HR rally, actually at Rayne, La. Wanted to stay at the Navy base but I am pretty sure it is closed. Anyway, the reason I am responding is the City campground at Rayne, about 60mi. away from N.O. I think is only $13.00 a night full hook up. You could drive into N.O. for that. Just a thought. Everything I could find close to N.O. was in the high 30's and 40's. a night. Good luck.

It's about 150 miles from Rayne to NOLA. Baton Rouge is about 60 miles from Rayne.

This may be too late for some but we were in Base Lodging in October. We were told that the base would be totally moved to Belle Chase in November of 2010. It is truly sad for us retired Military. We loved Magnolia Shade but it has been replaced with the new Federal City.

Here is another option you may want to try. We are going to the Good Sam Culinary Christmas Samboree in December and we will have full hook ups at the University of New Orleans Lakefront Arena. This was made into an RV Park for the FEMA trailers after hurricane Katrina and it is now run as an RV park. No details on cost or availability but should be easy enough to contact them. We loved Magnolia Shade NAS too and had an amazing Armed Forces Day many years ago as the Military Band played and cannons were fired over the riverbank, it was a moving experience I will never forget.
