How likely is it for an MCG to have overflow for a night or two along the southern routes thru Arizona and Texas etc, starting in CA and ending in Fl.

I'd guessing most are pretty full winter time months - and am talking here late November early December ... thx

usually the overflow is not too bad. you'll have to check to see if there's power or anything in the overflows. I can tell you that Hurlburt does NOT have anything but a place to park in overflow. I haven't seen more than one in overflow here but once. Of course there's really not room for more than 2 or 3 anyway, but it's rare to have one in overflow except for a couple weeks in Feb. If you get close and plan on stopping in, give a shout! [email protected]

We traveled from east to west two years ago with no reservations and no problems. We stayed in overflow in Tucson, AZ, El Paso, TX, Alamogordo, NM - usually dirt parking lot, no hookups. I usually call a couple hours before arrival just to ensure they have room and to verify base entry directions. We also try to avoid arriving on Fridays or Saturdays to avoid weekend travelers.

This is exactly how we travel. In 6 years of fulltiming and rarely making reservations, we've been turned away from a military RV park TWICE. You just need to be willing to dry-camp for a few days.

Last winter, we spent 5 months going from California to Florida and back. We spent overnight(s) at around a dozen military campgrounds and almost always had a hook-up site. We visited another dozen or more military campgrounds (didn't spend the night) and almost all of them still had open space.
