Patrick for the shuttle launch was created by Wadcutter
Just wondering if anyone was at Patrick for the last shuttle launch. Curious as to if Patrick filled and if it did how soon before the launch did it fill.
We're thinking of going down for the next launch in a few weeks and just wondering if Patrick filled for the last launch, how many days prior we should arrive, or if we should make reservations somewhere else.
Thanks!

We were there for the February launch and it was totally full. They even turned away two RVers when we were checking into the last available dry campsite. However, it was still winter and a lot of snowbirds were still there. It might be better now but with this being the last launch, I expect it will fill up quickly.
BTW, we drove our Jeep up to Titusville to watch the launch. We paid $10 to park and had a great viewing site right across the river from the launch pad. We had a much better view than those who elected to watch from Patrick. Lots of traffic. A local cop suggested we park on the west side of the road to make it easier to get back on to go home. Very good idea. We waited until two hours after the launch to even start back and it still took two hours.

Thanks. We were at Patrick for STS-117. The campground never filled for that launch. Since STS-134 just went up and it was not during winter-bird season we were wondering if Patrick had filled for the most recent launch. We're figuring on getting there about 10 days ahead of time for some other things in the area and were wondering if Patrick filled that far out for the last launch. If so we will probably look at reservations somewhere else.

We are wondering the same thing and I called Patrick yesterday but during the summer no one is in the office Tuesday or Wednesday. Will call Thursday and report here what kind of answer I get so we can all decide when we need to arrive there or go elsewhere. Does anyone know if a 45' Class A with 4 slides can fit into a site at KARS RV Park? I called but no answer so will have to try them again also.

Thanks lamsan.
I read where KARS was now open to retirees. How does it compare to Patrick? Wonder how hard it is to get into KARS for a launch?

Called Patrick AFB and was told they were not completely full for last launch. It was suggested we arrive about 3 days before and call just to be sure we had a spot for our beast of an RV. The holiday falls right before the proposed launch date but no festivities on the base for the 4th so they do not expect an influx of people for the holiday.
I also read Larrys report about KARS and looked at the website but no info on size of RV they can accomodate. When we go to Patrick AFB we plan on checking out KARS so I will put some feedback on this website.
