Unfair, unreasonable and ridiculous

I have to say my wife and I are active duty, and we live in the campground. We do not consider oursleves squatters or regulars.

Jay, the above sentence of yours says it all. If you read back through previous post on this subject, in this thread and others, you'll see that none of us retiree's have a problem with active duty using the Famcamps for extended periodds. If their is no room for this old retired sailor because the campground is full of active duty folks, then I'll gladly look elsewhere. We are proud of you and thank you for what you are doing.

Some bases alow DOD but other than that you have to be active or retired.

Ron,

Not necessarily true. In most cases you've got it right. In a few cases the public is allowed in. Specifically, Ft Chaffee in Arkansas and a Famcamp up in Wisconsin. Not all Famcamps are inside the fence so you don't need an ID card to get to them. I have a real problem when non-military connected folks are allowed to use MWR services. (I do understand that although Ft Chaffee allows local civilians to use the campground the military connected still have priority. That does not seem to be the case in Wisconsin. We'll be in Wisconsin in June but won't even try the military campground but will stay in Passport America parks.)

I know Fort Stewart in GA allows civillians in to their CG on an open space basis. Also if an authorized user needs a spot, the civillian is asked to vacate.

Oh, don't get me started on Civilians in the campground.....Frank knows of what I speak...lol.....one day I'll write my story of this last winter....already have the title...."Confessions of a Camp Host"....lol......

I have no problem with Active Duty staying as long as they need the space, in fact, half our sites are occupied with AD right now......troops coming back from Iraq and PCSing.......we have great campers here who have volenteered to give up their sites for the AD guys.....and since the new rules of max stay of 90 days in....90 days out....were installed 2 years ago...and more recently, reservations highly recommended.....rotation goes nicely....

I could go on and on, but you'll just have to wait for the book.....lol

Thanks Mike. I've got us scheduled into a couple of Passport America parks in June. One in Eastman and one in Barbaboo. We can stay in the PA parks for half price, in most cases, if we can find one in the area where we are going. We've got 15 days to sightsee between RV rallies in Iowa and Minnesota.
