New Guy

I was looking for a "new guy" thread to introduce myself so here goes; My wife Victoria and I have been RVing about 18 months now and love it. I'm a retired Coast Guard Senior Chief Aviator after 30 years of service. My wife and I are still working full time and look forward to long weekends to take the rig out and about. We have a 30 foot Sunny Brook Sunset Creek trailer and a 2011 Ram 2500 diesel to pull it. We're living in Elizabeth City, NC and have gone to most of the campgrounds in a 4 hours radius of here.

Welcome!!Glad you found us....we've been full-timing for almost 8 yrs. It's a great life....we've been to Elizabeth City CG Station a couple of times and have enjoyed the campground and Hanger 7 there...Enjoy your RVing life and hope to see you somewhere "On The Road"...

We will both be retired in 7 years, right now we are at Opa-Locka USCG Station Air Base. We are going to use the next few years to attend RV Shows and decide what type is right. I had a class C. I like the idea of dropping the home somewhere and having your vehicle to travel. Not sure WHERE I read it but somewhere I read that a travel trailer or 5th wheel are not the best idea for full time living. I see you would disagree with that I think for the money seems you get more with the 5th wheel but still you have to buy the truck, I can't wait to get out and walk through some of them in person.

Different RVs will work for different individuals. Lots of styles out there, but it depends on what you want to do, how much travel and how much 'camp-siting' ... Each one has positives and negatives for each person or couple.

We personally like the idea of "one engine" instead of towing a 'toad' (Two registrations, two insurances, two engines to maintain) ... and we also spend lots of time 'off-road' and in national and state parks (smaller sites), as well as MCGs on bases.

But, the best way to do this is try them all, at least walk in them, sit in them, and think about your lifestyle while doing it. Ask the salesman to leave you alone in it - as otherwise, you'll hear 'a sales voice' and never relax.

Once you have the idea 'whittled' down a bit, then it's a good idea to rent for a few weeks or a month - it's a lot of money to spend on a "maybe I'll like this" ... better to try each first, in 'real life'.
