We cross-country camped the past three plus months. Sometimes MCG, sometimes NP or SP. Sometimes FHU, PHU, or No HU – always enjoy it anyway it comes.
Decide to stop in isolated Naval Station MCG out in the boonies, West Virginia – have stayed there several times over the years. We like it a lot … Three new FHU sites and several PHU sites (E/W) along the river. Been on the road awhile, so took the one remaining FHU site – so we can charge, shower, etc. and wind down from Denver to WV trip thru the mountains, curves etc.
Pull in, hook up everything, drain tanks - etc. Then discover we have no power. Walk to MWR office, guy comes out, drives Go-kart to site - goes to power panel across the street, turns ‘T’ handle, tries to open it and set breaker. Can’t open it, says it’s locked - he has no key - only the construction guy has key - drives Go-kart to get supervisor. Both return on Go-kart. The supervisor turns ‘T’ handle, tries to open the panel, no luck. Say it’s locked, can’t open it - he has no key.
So, we decide to change site, will move down to W/E at river. We unhook and roll everything up. As we get into truck, guy in trailer next to us rides up on MC … he set up a couple hours before we got there in a TT. We tell him - does he know his TT has no power and is draining his batteries. He says, no, here, let me get you power. Retired Navy guy walks over to the panel, turns ‘T’ handle (the other way?), opens it, flips the breaker.
Takes one MCG civilian and one MCG civilian supervisor to test door and decide the panel was locked. But they both turned the 'T' handle one way, the wrong way. Takes one Retired Navy guy to turn a 'T' knob the other way and open the panel, turn on breaker. Retired USN guy says he built the pads and hooked up all services couple years ago when he was stationed here – shows us the panel key, stored inside the panel that’s never locked, so key won’t get lost. Didn't make this up.
We’re now hooked up again, with all services – and have a headache, but a shower will fix it. :woohoo:  M44
