Well, the frost is on the pumpkins in South Dakota, which unfortunately dictates the official closure of the Ellsworth AFB FamCamp, effective today. All is not lost however, as the water is still on, though probably only through next week. Winter camping will still be available, with electric only – no water or sewage, or bathhouse/laundry facilities. For info on winter FamCamp use, call Outdoor Recreation at (605) 385-2997.
Coming next year – hopefully! Closure of the 12 electrified overflow sites and the opening of 15 FHU pull-through sites – I say hopefully, because the pull-through option is still under discussion, even as work is underway to create the 15 new sites. For those who have visited our campground, the new sites will be located just to the east of the existing campground, in the old base housing area. Wi-Fi (!) will possibly be extended throughout the FamCamp area, as well as the possible addition of cable, at least that’s the plan as I type this.
Major reconstruction is currently underway on the Patriot Gate (East Gate). No info is yet available as to what affect the new gate construction will have on RV entry/exit. Until advised otherwise, use of the Commercial Gate is still the recommended entry/exit for RVs.
