I retired back in 2006, we live in Ohio and still have a 13 year old at home. We have been thinking about traveling the US via an RV once my youngest is out the door. So we purchased a used travel trailer (1998) and thought we would buy a used one to ensure that we would like traveling around in an RV prior to buying a new RV. We have it parked at a local campground on Lake Logan here in Ohio. We are planning on our First Real RV trip to Gettyburg in the spring
And would welcome all advise.
Thanks
Tony and Melissa

Seeing the USA is wonderful; and it doesn't have to be hard. Don't get me wrong, things will go wrong, and break; just fix the problem and move on.
We are fulltime and all may not apply, but here are several unwritten rules we use:
Make each days drive a reasonable distance, unless it just doesn't make good sense to stop. Typically 300 is max and 200 is average. We use 50 mph as a planning tool.
We stay most places 4 to 7 days. There is a reason to choose a location. Ours is biking, kayaking or seeing attractions. Four days min allows for weather down-days.
Unless it's really special, don't stay longer in a non-full hookup site then your tankage allows. We can do without water and sewage for 6 to 7 days with normal use.
Use this site to evaluate Military facilities and www.rvparkreviews.com/ for other parks. They have never steered us wrong.
Hope this helps...

Welcome to a fellow Buckeye. We are in NE Ohio and do local camping as well as long trips and stays. Currently we are on a 6 to 7 week trip west and then we spend the winters (NE OH weather can be brutal) in FL.

We plan on an average of 50mph too while travelling and unless we have to look at 250-300 miles a day as tops.

There are several very popular military RV Parks used by Snowbirds staying in FL. We use Key West / Sigsbee. Many use MacDill in Tampa. Check out the reviews and info here.
