Just found this site on IRV2. By way of introduction, we are the Page's, Mike and Nancy. We are a long time Air Force family. My dad was a Master Sergeant with 26 years when he retired in 1966, and he worked for Nancy's dad who was a Chief Master Sergeant. They both worked at the Rocket Site at Edwards. Nancy and I went to school together at Edwards, I graduated in 1964 and she graduated in 1965. We were married in 1968 and 46 years later still are.
I joined the Army right after high school and after a little over 7 years decided to get out. I started my civilian Air Force career at Edwards in the PMEL lab as an electronics tech. 20 years later I retired as the Deputy Director of Quality Assurance at the Air Force Contract Management Division at Kirtland AFB in New Mexico. I had the great good fortune to play a small role in re-arming America while Ronald Reagan was president. We were buying $20 billion a year in airplanes, satellites, and missiles and bankrupted the Russians......heady times indeed. I had a great career with the Air Force and retired as a GM-15.
While I was buying all this stuff Nancy worked mainly classified programs and was one of 6 people in the country cleared for the Emergency Response Procedure. She had a great career and ended up as a Contracting Specialist at the base contracting center at Kirtland. Nancy retired as a GS-12.
We have been R V'ing since we retired, starting with a Pinnacle motor home. We had it for 12 years and decided a 5th wheel was the way to go. We had it, a Excel 28 RGO for 9 years and I finally got to the point of not liking 15,000lbs following me down the road.....I think it was an age thing, but I just didn't feel right pulling it. Last month we found what may be the best traveling compromise yet, at least for us. We found an immaculate Nash 22GQ travel trailer that gives us a mobile motel room. We travel with 2 Yorkies and a Poodle and this little travel trailer is perfect. No more do we have to worry about staying in a "pet room" at the Super 8 and walk thru dog pee on the carpet. I found a used hensley hitch and this little trailer pulls like a 5th wheel.
We have stayed at the famcamp at the Air Force Academy and at Kirtland on numerous occasions, and are looking forward to staying at more famcamps in the future. I went to Nellis a couple of weeks ago and got a new, at least to me, CAC card to ease base entry. Things have really changed in the 24 years since I retired.
