Alison, proud military widow of Chuck D~
Checking in to introduce myself~ was created by HappilyHomelessisMoonStruck
I've been on the road solo for 3 years now, but just joined this forum. The website has been key to my traveling and I appreciate all the efforts put into keeping it going.
I'm a military widow, and bought my T@b trailer after my beloved husband's death. He and I spent the last 4 years of our marriage on the road, after selling everything in Jersey (he retired from McGuire AFB). We stayed primarily at base lodgings in our travels, however, because..I didn't believe in camping...
Chuck died while we were in southern CA, and I'd already determined that I would stay on the road, so I bought my T@b to use as my cocoon. It just wasn't emotionally bearable to me to continue as we had, and my T@b has served me well. Chuck set me on a mission to scatter his cremains, and I told him I would paint my car pink so that he could find me out on the road. Which I did, and painted the trim on my T@b the same shade when I bought it. Prior to his death, I'd never camped or towed, but learned how to do both, and I'm especially proud of my backing up skills at this point, though it can all go bad if someone is watching me.
In these 3 years, I've criss-crossed the country 8 times, which is pretty good for someone who isn't great at map reading or directions, and I stay as often as possible at famcamps. It makes me feel closer to Chuck, and there is an added measure of security for me. Plus I'm able to meet other military people, and hear their stories, and that keeps me going.
So, at this point, I'm giving some thought to hosting. It seems that many places look for couples but I figure, at this point, I have whatever it takes to tackle whatever needs to get done. There is nothing, since Chuck's death, that I can't learn, or do, and I push towards whatever seems impossible.
And I'm glad to be part of this group~

Welcome to the website! We know many singles who are on the road.
During the summer, I'm an Operations Manager for a concessionaire managing USFS campground and hire about 60 camp hosts for the summer season, About half of the positions I need are for singles. Unfortunately, I don't have any vacancies foe this summer. But there's plenty of camp host positions available for singles.

The only thing wrong with being retired is that you never get a day off!

Welcome Allison!
I'm kind of in the same boat as you..my wife passed before we could go camping a lot. We always enjoyed it and really wanted to just drive around the country, seeing the sights. Unfortunately, it was not to be. So when I finally retired, I got in the camper and took off for a six month cross country trip. I've been doing it ever since. I'm not a full timer, but maybe about a half timer?
This site is great for the information and expertise you will find on it. Larry does a great job and most of the people on the site are friendly and a lot of fun to be around. I'm hooked up with a bunch of them over the years and have always been welcomed, even though I am a single.
Good luck with your hosting. I've never wanted to do it myself, but it looks like it can be a rewarding experience.
Happy Camping!
