Active Duty Looking for Full Time RV was created by PiratedeNoLa
Hello Everyone,
I am currently a single Active Duty Naval Officer stationed in Japan and thinking about when I go back to the states going full time in an RV. I would like to know if any active duty can answer some questions for me about living full time in an RV while on active duty. I love the outdoors and love the simple lifestyle.
Cheers,
Michael

Hi Michael,
Welcome to the site!
The only advice I have on living full time in an RV while being on active duty is... don't plan on living in the base campgrounds and RV Parks. All military services have regulations against living in recreational facilities. You'll need to get an RV Park in the local community. However, it can still be a very economical way of living.

Larryf,
Thanks for the reply. I was under the assumption one could stay at military campgrounds but may have to leave for a certain period of time before being able to come back in. I will start to expand and make sure there is a commercial park where I can stay now. Thanks again!
Cheers

Don't mean to disagree with Larry, but many campgrounds do allow active duty to stay. Many now do enforce the 179/180 day rule - after that time period you must leave for 30 days. Three examples are Manatee Cove (FL), Joint Base Charleston (SC), Raccoon Creek (FL). Seems like there is no real consistency.

Funny how you referenced three USAF installations. Air Force Instruction 34-110, section 3.12. specifically states "Air Force campgrounds were developed for, and will be managed to support, recreational camping purposes. They are not to be used as a place to live for personnel assigned to or working on an installation."
Here's the USAF Instruction

Many installations "do" allow active duty to stay in the RV Park, but it is against the regulations.JJnLilly wrote: Don't mean to disagree with Larry, but many campgrounds do allow active duty to stay. Oh, I agree Larry, but some installations have their own interruptions. Last year at MasDill the FSS Commander said that the "Command" review does not rule out active duty using athe facility, as long as they abide by the same rules as others - ie 179/180 days and out.
