Midwest Camping, why not put one on Camp Ripley in MN? was created by sueglassart
Our closest Military campground is the one on an Air Force Base in Grand Forks. It is small and I have had to go to another campground as that one was full. Camp Ripley in Central Minnesota has a lot of ground and is a busy National Guard base, Has anyone considered putting a camping facility there? It is new many lakes and vacation spots.

A military campground is already under construction at Camp Ripley, MN. It's supposed to be open this summer for dry-camping only. Electric will be added by next year.

Stopped by there last fall. The pads are in for most of the sites. It's located near the Mississippi River by the bridge. Take a right at the stop sign after the railroad tracks and keep on going. It'll be nice when it's done.
Talked to the Major in charge of billeting which will run the campground also, and they're trying to use the Guards to do the work and most of those guys were deployed last summer. He thought they would be able to get some electric and water in this spring/summer. Looking forward to using it myself, grew up in Randall and go back quite often.

I started my military career with the Nebraska National Guard and went to Camp Ripley in August 1961 as a just turned 17 year old kid (didn't think that then). The wife and I taking our new rig on a shakedown the end of may. We will be traveling from the Ft. Bragg area to Minniapolis for a visit, I think I will give the new camp sites a look see. Thanks for the info.

If they're open, be sure to send us all the informarmation and a review. Just this week, they told me they're not yet open, but still plan to open this summer.

Larry and all,
Here is the latest from Camp Ripley:
"Krousey, James CIV NGMN" <James>
to me
1:22 pm (42 minutes ago)
Classification: UNCLASSIFIED
Caveats: NONE
The Camp Sites are not completed at this time. There are about 12 concrete
pads completed. We have no running water or electricity at this time. The
project has been on hold for about 2 years due to the lack of money. There
is no completion date in sight as of now.
