Are there any military RV facilities in or around Naval Station, Newport, RI? We are planning a trip in the spring from central Texas to Newport to visit my son in the Navy. Thanks.

1/9 Doc,

Welcome to the website and the forums. Click on CAMPGROUNDS located on the main menu. This will give you a USA map showing the locations of all known U.S. Military Campgrounds. You can scroll around the map and zoom in/zoom out. Clicking on an icon will give the name of the campground and a link to that campground's information.

This map makes it easy to locate the locations of any military campground. Other options under the CAMPGROUNDS menu selection give you the chance to see campgounds listed by state.

There's a very nice Military RV park right on the bay outside the base gates at Newport. I believe it has about nine or ten sites, and needs to be reserved early ... the base is a couple miles away with full commissary and other services. It's a great area to visit as well ...

The campground is called Carr Point and it has 6 spaces all facing Naraganssett Bay located up on top of a cliff. Some of the sites have an excellent view of the Bay while others have trees in front of the view. No swimming as there are no lifeguards. No sewer...you have to go to Portsmouth campground up on the hill. Beware of water pressure as it is very high. 50 amp service. RR tracks nearby but only are used for a dinner train. Not a problem after blowing their horn (required) as they come to the road from the campground that crosses the track. See my post under the reviews on best way to get to the campground. My home town and have stayed there many times in our travels from TX to Newport. Feel free to contact me if I can help in any way.

We stayed there in 2006 I think. Nice and quiet place, dinner train wasn't a big issue with us either. I called and made my reservations over the phone. Lady, that help us was very friendly and helpful. Really didn't even go to see her after arrival, she sent us all the cards and stuff in mail.

Water pressure is high, busted a hose while there. Turn off water when you leave and use a regulator. Newport was a very nice place to visit and will go back. Enjoy, the stay.
