New Boston AFS - Reopening was created by Sizzors
I picked this up on a Air Force website today. Thought it might be of interest.
"After the conclusion of a multiyear investigation, the Air Force has reopened access to the recreational venues at New Boston AFS, N.H., announced officials at the station, which is home to the 23rd Space Operations Squadron. In 2009, officials halted camping and recreational activities there to determine if there were any residual effects from the station's heritage as a World War II- and Korean war-era conflict training facility, states New Boston's March 21 release. The investigation found no lasting effects prohibiting camping and recreational activities at the 2,600-acre site, according to the release. The New Boston campground is one of only two FamCamps—services-run camping facilities—in New England, and has approximately 50 campsites. The station, located 25 miles north of the Massachusetts state line, comprises mostly undeveloped forest areas."

I've stayed there and it's really nice - right on a small pond. But as I recall, it has no commissary or fuel. Am heading to NE in as month or so ... may get by there.
Curious why you said only two MCG in NE, when we have this one, Maine, two in NY, one at Hanscom, one at Westport, and one in RI and one at Fourth Cliff.

The New Boston Recreation Area opened up in June 2012. At that time, campers were required to attend a "safety" training course first. This was required since there was (still may be) unexploded ordinance in the area. Do you know if this course is still required?
Here's a copy of the letter with the training course requirement.

On your question abt the safety course - I don't know.

Yeah, that's why it always good for us to check directly - sometimes, info gets published that 'a writer don't do the homework' ... seems odd that anyone AF or otherwise would write something like this and not know about other MCGs in the area.
I do know that is a nice MCG there in NH, and others in NE are nice as well, some well run, but the Fourth Cliff is not well run, and am surprised it runs at all that way office staff is, very untrained.
Hanscom is well run as is Westport, but Newport is run out of the MWR office, but it's only eight sites - no sewer at all, not even a dump, although you can dump at the local civilian CG , it charges a fee and the manager is not very polite to MCG tenants.
We're heading to NE, then to west coast, so will probably stop in the NH CG and check it out, it was nice last time but it's been several years closed.
