Seward Air Force FAMCAMP closing?

While staying at the "other" Seward military campground last month, the Seward Military Resort, I did visit the Seward Air Force FAMCAMP and saw some handouts labeled "Save our campground" and also heard that the Seward FamCamp will be closing in September and the land given to the City of Seward.

I also heard, while staying at Elmendorf FAMCAMP, that Elmendorf will be taking over operation of the Seward Military Resort from the Army (which I find hard to believe since that Resort seems to be quite their pride & joy), Maybe joint operation like the Joint Base?

Anyone else heard anything about this?

The closing of the Seward Air Force Camp was in our newsletter a few months back. Readers were encouraged to write MWR to let them know their feelings. However, a recent note from MWR was that they still plan to close this FamCamp.

It is pretty redundant, with Seward Military Resort across the street with much nicer and more amenities, albeit 50% more costly. Also with the 2 military bases combined, I suppose they also decided to combine MWR functions as they did the PX/Exchange, medical, etc.

While we were at Seward Military Resort, the campground was never more than 2/3's full and usually less than that.

I was assigned to the Old Rec Camp in 1973-1975 and ran one of the fishing boats out of Seward. Great duty if you can get it! Does anyone have any pictures of what it looks like now! I would love to see what changes have been made. I know they moved the rec area and no longer have the trailers but I am still interested to see what the town looks like!
