Kennedy Space Center was created by [email protected]
I am a relatively new member <2 years> to this site and only get to travel once a year. Any way I seem to remember that there use to be a site either very close or actually at the Kennedy Space Center. Is this true, or was I just imagining this...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The KARS campground when we drove through a year ago left a lot to be desired. It was ungated and run down and did not have much to offer. Very few RV's were there and if you are elgible you would be better off staying at Patrick AFB in their FamCamp. Use the Rec Facility Info link on the top of the page and click on Florida and you will have all the details on Patrick FamCamp.

Thank you for the response!!
They don't have any site photos for the KARS camp sites so I didn't know what it looked like.
I do have access to Patrick AFB but thought I would check out all my options. I was looking for something that may be close or on the water and it doesn't look like I have a lot of options.
Thanks again!

I respectfully disagree with some of the above. There is a gate, and it is manned at certain times. The KSC police also drive thru occasionally, as does the county sheriff. That aside this park is well off the beaten path and very few drive throughs occur.
The park camping store has many essentials, and the drive into town isn't far - maybe 7-8 miles The CG is only abt 3 miles from the Space Center gates and if a launch is going to occur while you are there you will have a front row seat fm the campground. The shuttle is gone, but there is still quite a bit of other launch activity going on. SpaceEx, for example, is still launching all of their missions from the Air Force launch site on the cape.
We have camped at Patrick for extended periods and love it, but it is a 30-45 minute drive to the Space Center. I heartily recommend the KARS park. It has full services, you can camp right on the water overlooking the launch platforms if you desire, or you can camp further back in the park. We have done both and prefer the back areas. The methane gas releases from the bay at low tide are a bit overpowering if you are up close
The park ball fields are heavily used on the weekends, but it does not detract fm the rest of the park. At least go have a look at it. Then decide.
