This is a long post. I tried 3 times last night and never got posted. I'm going to try to do it in installments and hope it works. We left Uchee Creek on March 10 and after a very long drive arrived at Pelican Roost for a 10 day stay. We had made reservations 4 months out for a front row site. The person in the office told us we didn't have reservationss. We had a confirmation number. No matter. She had a list of arrivals for March 10 and we weren't on it. I wanted her to check again. The computers are down. We could go into dry camp. My wife asked to speak to the manager. It being Sunday the manager was not at work but after a phone call she agreed to come in. We were directed to the dry camp area to wait.

It worked this time. We waited in dry camp for about an hour and a half. My wife went to deal with the manager. I was pretty hot and didn't want to say anything to get me in trouble. The manager more or less told my wife the same story the office person told us. We weren't on the March 10 arrival list. She can't do anything for us except dry camp. We can't dry camp because my wife is on oxygen when she sleeps. We need electricity. The manager said she could give us electric and water for tonight only but couldn't stay there. If the computers are up the next day she would check our status again. We were directed to a site behing the concrete building out back and the tennis courts. We shared water and electricity with what looked liked 2 homesteaders with full hookups. We were OK for the night.

Last installment. The next morning we went to the office to deal with the manager. She produced a sheet of paper with our name and an arrival date of April 10. NO WAY! When I make a reservation anywhere I use an index card and put the name of the establishment, address, phone number, arrival date and leave date. The arrival date on my index card said March 10. No way would I look at March 10 and say April 10. At first I thought it was incompetence but finally figured it out. They knew exactly what they were doing. Either they bumped me for a friend or they got even with me for complaining about our treatment there last spring. Now we have to look for somewhere to stay for 10 days. I don't know how many people are involved but they are doing something very wrong. Shame on you Pelican Roost. I hope you get caught one of these days.

I try to be an optimist and if you check my posts you'll see I'm a big fan of Pelican Roost. With that said... I do not believe Pelican Roost folks purposely fouled up your reservation. People are human and mistakes are made. The mistake may have been made by the Roost and it may not have been. I know they started using a new reservation system a few months ago and the unfamiliarity with a new system may have contributed to an error. The last time I made a reservation they were trying to get the "email" confirmation feature working. Personally, I always call before traveling to make sure a campground has my reservation and everything is in order. I'm glad they were able to accomadate you for the night. The fact that the manager came in on her off time says a lot about the manager. Frankly, as unhappy as you were the last time you stayed at the Roost, I'm surprised you came back.

I'm with you FloridaKamper. I'm also a big fan of Pelican Roost as an RV Park. That's why I was so upset. I wanted to sit there on the front row for 10 nights. I've stayed there before and thought maybe last year wouldn't happen again. I'm going to try again next year. I can make reservations 6 months in advance now and I already have my index card made out as to when I can call. I also plan to call and verify my reservation every week once I get on the road. Take care.

I also stay at Pelican Roost and have not had that happen. Not far from there is James E Johnson Memorial Park. We all call it Camp Blanding. We were out there this weekend and they had a lot of vacant spots.
