I understand your complaint and agree, you should be told up front.
I retired as a Civil Service employee also. the day I retired I lost all access to the facility and must be escorted and signed in by an employee now. I served 23 years total between active duty and ANG, 32 civil service. I don't agree with these policies at all. If you want these benefits then serve. They might as well open everything up to the general public, heck just let anyone shop and stay.
Sorry nothing against you or anyone personally, I just feel that those are benefits of serving and active duty money and accommodations were not always that good. Why are just DOD civilians allowed and not the rest of the Federal Civilians? Just my opinion.
