We are staying at King's Bay NSB. We wanted to visit Savannah so we drove up to Hunter AAF & stayed onbase in their TLQ. 3 room suite = $53 a night, right in the heart of Savannah. We were there for the Xmas tree lighting & boat parade. Great place to stay if you're not in the RV. While there, I checked on Hunter's RV park. Right now it's primitive only. Sites have water & nothing else. The new park is under construction, due to be completed June `09. They will have 16 FHU slots. Planned to be paved, but monetary reductions may result in them being gravel instead. No one could tell me for sure. Same story with the bath house. Let's keep our finger's crossed. Hunter is so convienent to Savannah.

Went past the "New to be" CG yesterday. There is construction going on and it is right inside the "RIO" gate. Very convenient to the off base mall and a short drive to Savannah.

Latest info: CG is still due for completion by the summer. The Rio Road gate (next to Savannah Mall) is open 24/7 for ID card holders. New guard shack at the gate. The new CG is just inside the Rio Gate and across the road from the old CG. For the new CG, once inside the gate Take a HARD left at the guard shack..they moved the barriers back a few weeks ago so RV's can make the turn.
There's a picnic area a5 min walk from the CG. Boat ramp, dock, playground, screened gazebos. Plenty o picnic tables and grills. Fishing from the dock is allowed and even has sinks to clean the fish.
I tried to take a pic but the guard acted like it was a secret facility. Will be more discrete in the future!

From the Outdoor Rec page on the HAAF MWR website:
"Look for new full hookup campground coming in early April with electric, water, cable, wifi, showers, laundry, etc. Water hookups are available at Hunter's Campground near Lotts Island and generators are welcome. The campground is secluded with a beautiful marsh view."
I ride by the new CG daily, it looks very close to completion.

There's been little progress in the last two months. There's a big pile of gravel at the CG entrance. I'll put the question up at the next Garrison CC meeting.
