We were at Kings Bay in January and March 2009 and enjoyed it very much. Well-maintained campground, lots of activities and run by very nice staff. We met some really nice full-timers that we keep in touch with. We will stay there again. We plan to spend the winter of 2010 in Texas.

It always amazes me that some MCG's like Kings Bay can do such a good job running the place, and others look like the NY slums, almost.

IF the budget was the deciding factor, which I suspect it is to some degree but not all, then the money should be spent on improvements to make the revenue grow instead of paying 'caretakers' that slack off.

Instead, the MCG diminishes in charactor and then less Rv'ers patronize it, and it gets worse. IF the caretakers kept the place clean and tidy, like Kings Bay does, and respond to the comments of RV'ers, all of them could do a service to the people they are designed to accomodate.

I'm currently at Fourth Cliff outside of Boston - and at $25 a night (one of the MOST expensive), it should be ashamed of itself. The shower room looks like it hasn't been serviced in a month, and needs repairs as well as cleaning.

I'll always look forward to Kings Bay and go there whenever I'm close -- it's like going home, almost :)

I sure do agree that Kings Bay is super and well maintained. As I read comments in the forum it made me remember that the Kings Bay campground is only about 4 or 5 years old so it should still be looking good. Some of the other MCG's have been around a long time and my guess is not too much attention was given to them over the years to update them and even if the staff today tries to keep them looking neat you are still looking at old building and old sites.

QUOTE: "...still looking at old building and old sites."

That's true, but dirt only gets old if no one does anything about it. And, some are just plain dirt too, as well as old buildings. That condition goes to the caretakers ...

The caretakers often complain about budget, and the command sometimes takes RV money and spends it on Golfing stuff - and that is contrary to basic command protocol... but that's why command has scrambled-egg hats and I had stripes on my arm. :) :)

And, you're right - Kings Bay is new and clean, but the people that work there keep it that way too. That's half the battle.
