Sigsbee
The following is from the Sigsbee MWR staff:
MWR held a staff meeting yesterday & advised us to let everyone know that we are nearing full capacity 4 weeks ahead of our usual peak. At this time, there are only a handful of dry sites available at Sigsbee (maybe 6 available at this moment), and only about 15 dry sites available at Trumbo, give or take a few. Considering we are averaging 6 to 10 RV's incoming a day, with only 1 or 2 leaving per day... those few sites will be filled quickly! Here at Sigsbee, we have utilized every possible nook & cranny that we could squeeze in an RV. We even added 3 new dry sites today along the fence line to housing, but there is no more open area that we can utilize....
If you know of some one that is not active duty and planning on coming to Sigsbee or Trumbo in their RV, please advise them to call the MWR RV Park Office ahead of time to SEE IF THERE IS ROOM to come on board before they make the 3 1/2 hour drive from Homestead. Yes, there are surrounding RV parks on the islands in between.... but they charge substantially more (like $125 +/per nite v's $12/nite dry camp at Sigsbee or Trumbo). But the main point is, we would hate to have to turn someone away after driving all the way down here if there is no room available at either location.
Active Duty Military is highly advised to make reservations ahead of time. Non-active duty, retired military/DOD civilians can not make reservations and are on a first come - first serve basis only.
For those of you that are here at Sigsbee already... please be advised that you could rotate to Trumbo after your 2 weeks on full hook-ups. At that time, you will be given an option to stay at Trumbo and not rotate, or to stay on the rotation list. If you select to stay on rotation, be sure the Sigsbee RV Park Office has a good phone number to reach you at so you can be called the day prior to be notified of rotation back onto full hook-ups at Sigsbee. Due to logistics, calling is the most expedited means of contacting those at Trumbo Point that are rotating.

i can't vouch for how old the notice is. However, I received it today (1/25/09).Larry, how current is that MWR note? I heard rumor of this notice and meeting a week ago but the rumor was that they had subsequently decided to create more dry slots at at the Chapel field. I never saw the note so maybe it came out yesterday/today.

I think he extreme cold weather in Florida a week or so ago drove many people as far south as they could go.WOW!! I think that will be a first if NAS Key West has to turn away campers.

But, no big deal. Folks are very considerate and in great spirits. A neighbor, that we had not met before, eagerly volunteered to assist my bride in moving the MH to get gas, dump and load water. It is a great ambiance. Full hooks or Dry...no problem.
