I was stationed in KW from 1974-76. My housing was on Sigsbee. I'm looking forward to going down to see the old place. It's almost too much for a one day drive from the Tampa Bay area, but probably too short for a two day drive.

From Tampa we usually cross the state on the Tamiami Trail (scenic) and stay at the Micasuki Indian casino where the trail ends...maybe 5 hours. They welcome parking in their lot...just sign up with security. Good buffet The lot is patrolled (I don't WalMart "camp" but this is a good exception. From there we head to Sigsbee. Takes about 3.5 hours.

Tom if you are a Thousand Trail member the preserve at Wauchula, Fl. is a good stopping point and the drive to Key West from there is about 330 miles. Depends on how you want to go and where you are coming from there are numerous choices of where to stay. Some folks will take a chance and go into Avon Park Air Force Range and I believe some days you can get in and some days you cannot from what we have been told but no hook ups of any kind. We are not Walmart over nighters either so we use Passport America or Thousand Trails Preserves as we travel to our primary places to stay.
