I have delta dental and pay about 55.00 per month, but my question is that I go to a different dentist than my wife and I usually have to pay additional on my visits but she a lot of time gets a credit on her visit. They are both on the list so anyone have a thought on this issue.
Thanks

I know deciding whether or not to carry "any" insurance is a personal choice. However, we feel the TriCare Delta Dental isn't worth $600+ a year.
Since we travel fulltime, we usually migrate to the SW in the winter. We knew many fulltimers go to Mexico for dental and optical care. We've heard good and bad stories. My wife was a dental assistant for over 11 years and was concerned about hygiene in Mexican dental offices. We recently went to Algadones, Mexico (near Yuma) with getting a dental cleaning in mind. Los Algadones is an unusual border town. Within about 5 square blocks, there's over 300 dental offices, 100 pharmacies, and 50 optical shops.
We stopped at a small dental office and she talked to the staff. She asked to look around (hygiene check) and decided to get the cleaning for $40. She thought they did a good and professional job and scheduled to come back for a few fillings. We returned a few days later and they discovered one of her cavaties was pretty deep and receommended a root canal and crown or an extraction. She looked at the tooth and agreed with them. She decided to get the root canal. Within an hour, they had an Endodontist 'come' to us at this dental office. Bottom line - she had a cleaning, 5 fillings, a root canal, and a porcelian crown. All for $540. In the states, this is about $2500+ worth of work. She feels they did an excellent and professional job.
Our only mistake was she ordered new glasses in Yuma for another $500+, which will be ready in a week. In Mexico, the SAME glasses and frames are only $230 and ready in 2 hours.

Larry,
Tell us the name of the office or the Dentist. We go to Yuma next year and may need to get some work done. If you don't want to post it then send me a PM.

We went to Dr. Eron Martinez, at "La Cholla Dental". It's a very small office on 'B' Street (I think).
Unfortunately, I don't have their exact adress. With so many dentists crammed in a small space, it'll be easy to be overwhelmed. But here's easy directions to find them:
If walking (as we and most people do), you'll go through the lines of street vendors pestering you. Keep an eye out for the dentist office, as it's hidden in all of the clothing and 'junk' for sale. Here's a hint: To avoid the peddlers, walk in the streets. You'll be outside of the street vending area which covers the entire sidewalk. La Cholla Dentist has a large sign on the street.
But again, there's plenty of dentists to choose from. Good luck!

- After crossing the border, go straight on that street for 2 blocks.
- Turn right and go a few businesses down.
- La Cholla Dentist will be on the right.
- It's located almost DIRECTLY across the street from a church.

In Florida I'm paying $65 per month for TRICARE Retiree Dental for myself and spouse. Here is some info about the plan that may help you maximize your benefit this year. The insurance runs from May 1st to April 30th. The maximum benefit is $1200 per year per person. This year is a little different in that DOD is awarding a new 5 year contract to the same contractor (Delta Dental) on Oct 1st. Because of this there is a few month extension of the current contract that will benefit us. On May 1st we will start over with a new $1200 per person available, and the usual $50 deductible will not apply. Then on Oct 1st we'll start again with a new $1200. If you use $1200 between now and April 30th, you'll get another $1200 and if you use it all up by Sept 30th you'll get another $1200. The way I'm reading it, you could get $3600 per person this year. Also, the press release says that under the new contract certain dental implant services will be covered. That has never been a covered service before. Hope this info helps someone. Verify it by calling their customer service number. Bob
