Has anyone done any traveling on Route 66? If so, where did you start, what did you see and was the trip worth it? Did you also get Route 66 info from any source and where did you obtain it? Thanx.

Google Route 66 and you'll find lots of info --

I did hit a few parts of it while traveling west a couple years ago - and sometimes signs appear along the highway telling you where some of it is. The entire route no longer exists as a true route.

But the parts I drove were pretty scenic, and historic buildings exist, as well as the remains of others. Was worth the 'side-trip' where ever it runs and where ever you can find it.

Route 66 is fun in the parts where you can find it. Oklahoma has the most miles of the original road than any other state. It pretty much parralels I-44 east of Oklahoma City and I-40 to the west. There are several nice Route 66 museums along the route in Oklahoma but the best is at Clinton in western Oklahoma.

Several books have been published on Route 66. One was written by a guy I used to work with named Jim Ross. His book is in spiral form and includes maps from each state showing what is left of the original road. Go to Amazon.com and put in Route 66 to see what you come up with on books.

Here's a link to a website that describes how to follow what's left of Route 66:

I just spent the last couple of weeks camping in northern Arizona with my grandkids and we hit a couple of places on old Route 66. We had a great time! Some of the towns have even restored their portion of Route 66 to what it looked like in the 50's and 60's....to include the cheesy motels and drive-ins!!

Here I am...Standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona!! (Yep, it's THAT corner.)

Go get your kicks on Route 66!!

Thanks for all the info. I ordered a 3 book set from Amazon.com the other day. Includes maps. I also received from Oklahoma a large book about the state. Monday, I'm going to call them and obtain their booklet on their 400+ miles of Rt 66 and a booklet on campgrounds. We will probably make the trip in Sept. We are getting excited about it. :cheer: :woohoo:

Hmmm....just noticed that the link I put in the message above isn't working. If you copy and paste it however, it does work. Am I doing something wrong with the link insert Larry?
