What did you have to provide to the state to prove your status. Is this a recent change because when I became a Texas resident a couple of years ago, I did not see anything about this price break on registration.

Thanks,

Curt

most important is to be at least 50% disabled veteran
its prorated based on level of disability, but over 50 brings tons of goodies so to speak, 60%
free dl, free hunting licenses, lifetime stat park entry, except camping.
not sure where the property tax falls off but last year i paid 12 bux for property taxes, now this years prorated because i went 100% so they now have zero property taxes up to 25 acres.

your local tex veteran assistance office can guide you

The caveat is that it takes a 50% or greater disability to get one $3 Disabled Veteran (DV) plate and you only get one at that price. So if you qualify put it on the vehicle that is most expensive to register – typically the RV.

If the disabled person is a recipient of the Purple Heart, then you also qualify for a $3 PH plate.

But more importantly, Texas provides a property tax break that reduces the assessed value based on the % of disability. In my case, that's about 20% off my tax bill.

Free hunting and fishing license requires one to be 60% disabled.

Yes, Texas is a veteran friendly state. Check out this website for other bennies. www.tvc.state.tx.us/

New mexico is free.

I put tags on my rig and Jeep, Both "Permanent" and free.
Free taxes on homes. I just purchase a home here in Alamogordo,NM.Also no excise tax on new vehicle purchase. My tags use to cost $3.00 bucks in Fla.
You go to Veterans Service Office and they apply for you
the "New Mexico Tax Certificate"
