WOW i am shocked NM is so friendly to vets.

my experience in the land of enchantment has not been positive, and it got worse once they found out i was a veteran of the disabled nature. smacked in the head, withholding of essential meds for four days, forced to stand outside in the snow with no socks, just flip flops, drug from my bed in the middle of the night, harassed by prison guards because i walk with a cane, your to young to be a broken veteran, the list goes on
new orleans corruption has nothing on Albuquerque

Thanks for the great info. We are Escapees members and Texas is our domicile. My VA rating just went up rather dramatically. My application for DV plates is in the mail.

I do love Texas,

I'm jealous. Perhaps it's my ignorance, but I don't have a disability rating or have ever dealt with the VA.

Perhaps someone can email me privately or start a new discussion. What would be involved to find out if I qualify for any disability and how do I go about it? Or is it too late - I retired 13 years ago with zero disability.

Larry:

You probably have some physical issues that started during your military career.

If you have some medical records (they can be from doctors after you left the service) that appear to be service connected then you should file. The good news is that this can be done online and is a very simple process.

You will then be called to come to a VA hospital for an evaluation. There has never been a better time to do this. The Secretary of the VA is the former Chief of Staff of the Army, General Shinseki, and he is working very hard to change the culture within the VA. The general was forced into retirement when he told Donald Rumsfeld that he was going to try to occupy Iraq with too few boots on the ground. We now know who was right.

My reevaluation took only about six months from the time I filed to the time, I had my decision back.

You are retired Air Force. Did you have any contact with Agent Orange? Do you have hearing loss from being on air crews during your time in. Do you any physical problems related to activities that you participated in.
