User Map

Considering the problems and messages posted, the administrator must be wondering why he decided to put this new toy on the net.

Personally, I only care about two things associated with the "balloon." One is that I can more easily locate all you people who owe me money, and two, which color I should choose for my angioplastic surgery?

To indicate my intention of humor with this issue, there was supposed to be a smiley face balloon at the end, but it didn't post with the message. I must have done something not to get it to appear. How ironic.

Larry, a quick question. We will be going fulltime soon, we use Hughes Net dish on a tripod, That is our ISP. When we update the map do we use lat and long, or the town name? And how often will we have update it? Dave and Betsy ??? ???

I also use HughesNet. Most likely, your IP address will change everytime you move and re-connect. This is how the user map determines your location, so you'll most likely have an incorrect or no location reflected unless you manually change it each time you change locations. When you manually change it, you drag your "balloon" to your location on the map. You don't enter a lat/long or town name.

As a side note - I wish the user map here was more automated, very much like what you'll find at www.datastormusers.com . Since my Hughes dish is automated (DataStorm), my location on the user map at this website is automatically updated from my controller's built-in GPS.

Hi Larry,
When I first tried the User Map, everything worked as advertised. Then my balloon took off without me and headed south to the bay area over the course of a week - hijacked, I guess. It also refused to move back to where I'm actually located in central OR. Now my user name has disappeared from the user list and I have no balloon. I've tried re-entering my location manually but nothing works. Hmmmmm.... We use Verizon and I'm sure I'm logged on. Got any guesses? When you get a chance...
