Ok i live in SC.. and was wondering when I should winterize.. Would love to travel more but with the holidays around the corners time and money is tight....Also my rubber roof is "gritty" and leaves a "sand trail" down my rv? Is this normal or is it time for a new roof? DH will be home from South Korea for a 2 week leave in late Jan early Feb would like to take the Rv for a trip.....but if I need to winterize now than that wont be possible...Hepl and suggestions would be nice

I'm in Oklahoma. Probably about the same climate. I've got the winterizing thing down to about an hour job. Open all the low water drains and let them drain out. I then hook up the hose from my compressor, open the taps in the coach and blow all the lines out. I run the compressor until I get nothing but air coming out. Pull the plug on the hot water tank and drain it. Put some RV anti-freeze in all the drain traps and I'm done. (Of course, I always check the water level in my six batteries and that they are fully charged. I then use the battery cutoff switches in the battery compartment so there is no parasitic drain on them.) That's it I'm done. I park the coach in a storage lot about three miles from the house. It's over there now, winterized, but we are planning to go with our local camping club in a couple of weeks for a few days. I'll just re-winterize it when we get back. Once you get it down it really not a big job.

Don't let winterizing interfer with your trip, like Old Chief say it only takes a couple to take it out and put it back. Would probably be good for the batteries anyway.

I had a trailer and I used to blow out all the water lines and the water heater but having the wife open each valve while I blew it out and also after I took out the water heater plug and in five years of very cold winters in utah I never had a frozen line. That way if I chose to head out I could do so without worry or draining antifreeze or any other hassles just hook up and go.
Good luck to ya.

Are you living in the RV? If so there are some things to do that will make it so you don't have to winterize. If you live in it let us know and we can go from there. You can use heat tapes for the water etc.

SC and OK are NOT simular for winterizing.
I stayed in OK and it gets below freezing for weeks at a time or even longer. SC may drop down below 32 overnight for short periods, but not many.
I you feel you need to winterize in SC wait till local weater forcast calls for freezing temps.
