RV Fires

Im a training officer for a Fire Dept. and the owner of a 23' 09 Jayco.Im writing a class for Firefighter on RV fires. Any help anyone can give would be great. Looking for some pics. and vids I can use on powerpoint.You can E-Mail me at [email protected]. Thanks

RV fires, Thats a real sad thing to happen........But it does.
Must of the fires are cause by faulty apliances or chassis electrical.
Lots of recalls on Dometic frig.....Some people travel with the frig on propane, Thats a nono.
Turn it off....The frig will keep its cool for aleast 6 hrs of driving. If you losse a $25.00
ribeye steak..don't worry about it....It is better to losse that than a love one or a million dollar RV.
Anyway this pic was taken from my RV heading north on I-95.....don't know what happen to them.

For everyone's info: Can you explain why "no driving" with propane on in frig.

How is that dangerous exactly ? How would this cause a fire ? Seems to me that everything is shielded by the mfg so it is possible to drive with frig on -- otherwise, we'd all lose everything in the frig when we drove long distance. So it makes more sense for mfg to make this equipment usable while driving -- and I'm betting lots of us do it, including myself sometimes.

I know I have a three-way - so can drive with DC .. although, in my experience the DC does not work well, and I often lose temperture while using DC and driving. This might be a good piece of info for all of us to know - I mean, no driving and why it's not safe.

A wind gust can put that propane light out...and raw propane can involve the coach and can ignite at any time. Rule of tumb. if you smell rotten egs.. abandone ship at your safest way.
(Propane smell like rotten egs)12 volts is ok unles you have an electrical short, but It will not
blowup like propane. My fridge only runs on Propane and DC. I retired as a semitruck driver
and you only allowed to drive 8 hours,by the log book. So if you are RVing please slow down
drive no more than 6 or 8 hrs and stop. Turn your generator and fridg on for a couple of hours
then you'r ready for another safe six.

Besides if a person drives to fast it will miss the scenery, Thats what RVing is all about.

Another reason not to use propane while driving is remember this is an open flame and when you pull into the fuel stations how some people are messy and fuel is on the ground. The fumes from the spilled fuel can cause an explosion with this open flame. About as dangerous as folks we see smoking around fuel stations, what are they thinking?
