Todays RV refregerators do not have a flame. They are operated with 12VDC, and not from the battery, but through the converter. An OLD refer with a flame could and would be a problem. If you have one with a pilot, it belongs in a museum.

Frank, I hate to disapoint you but all of the fridge's that run on propane have a flame. It may not be right out in the open but you can certainly see it if you look behine the fridge. You can also hear it running with the rush of propane. Mine is a 06 and it has the flame. I think all of them do.

I'll pass this along for those who may not be aware of it. We had a Tiffin Phaeton and now have the Tiffin Zephyr and we have an outlet behind the refrigerator wired into the inverter (take off outside ref. panel) so we run our refrigerator off the inverter when we travel and then switch over when we have shore power. As we talk to other Tiffin owners they are not always aware of this. There are other manufacturers that install this outlet in coaches with an inverter but not sure who they are, so in case you are not sure you may want to look for this second outlet clearly marked inverter. Not sure about trailers or fifth wheels but might be worth looking if you have an inverter or check with the manufacturer. Certainly the safest way to run the refrigerator and no need to worry about losing food. Thanks Bill and Jean for reinforcing what I said as it could save someones life who has been using the LPG while travelling.

I have a 3-way -- but have noticed in the past that the DC method does not 'keep the cold up' in the frig when traveling.
Is that generally the case with others that use DC on the road??
I have my truck battery, and one camper battery, but no battery bank, so I wonder if charging while driving also make the DC component less effective. I know the DC does not work very well - unless it's just mine, and in other campers DC it's effective ... I know it takes lots of power and will drain a standing battery pretty quickly ...

I don't think any of the Monaco products wire their fridge's for the inverter because if you plug into the inverter and for some reason the inverter is turned off the fridge is off unless you put it on auto. The wiring is just not there for it. Mine has two plugs in back and one is for the ice maker and the other for the fridge. Neither is on the inverter. I just run mine on propane when traveling. I shut it off when fueling.
