My motor home has propane fridge and if the flame goes out there is "NO" excess propane running and it will also start to beep telling me it is out. I understand that most refers have been like this for years. My tent trailer was the same way and it was a 96 model year my rig is a 05. My stove also will not allow propane to run if there is no flame and the igniter is not firing. I think anyone with something made prior to 90 might have that problem.

My previus post about "Don't run with propane on" was just a common sence from me.
Now after reading on "Mac the Fire-man fire prventions. I feel good .
Here is quote # 8 from his site.

"8 Driving with propane on can add to the danger if you are involved in an accident or have a fire. Most refrigerators will keep food cold or frozen for eight hours without running while you travel. Shut the propane off at the tank"

Folks just be careful .
May the Great Spirits bless and keep you safe on your travels.

I don't think any of the Monaco products wire their fridge's for the inverter because if you plug into the inverter and for some reason the inverter is turned off the fridge is off unless you put it on auto. The wiring is just not there for it. Mine has two plugs in back and one is for the ice maker and the other for the fridge. Neither is on the inverter. I just run mine on propane when traveling. I shut it off when fueling. :)

Bill, you may want to take a second to those outlets. Our Monaco has two also, one for the fridge and one for the icemaker. The one for the icemaker does go through the inverter. If necessary I can switch the plugs and run the fridge off the inverter.

I stand corrected, I had a "Senior Moment"
However, the modern refers do not have a pilot light that burns all the time.
Thanks for correcting me. I am eating crow.

ok, I supposed I could switch the plugs and run the fridge on the line that the ice maker is plugged into, which works on the inverter but that is a lot of hassel to do so. The plug is not marked inverter but you are correct that it is running through the inverter. The fridge pulls a lot of amps and I don't think that the inverter is designed to run it all of the time. Knowing me I would forget to change it back.

When we realized we could run the frig off the inverter we thought is it worth it and can the inverter handle it? It is an individual choice of course and size of frig and inverter is important. The frig does not take as many AMPS as most of us think they do once they are at the proper temperature. We have a 3000 WATT inverter which will give us about 25 AMP usage and we have a Dometic AutoDefrost 14 Cubic Inch Frig which takes 8.5 AMPS when run on 12V Inverter. Even with a 2000 WATT inverter you get about 16 AMPS so should be okay. When a manufacturer gives you the option to run the frig off the inverter, and Monaco makes a superior coach I would think you would not have a problem. It becomes part of our routine when getting ready for the trip to change outside plug and turn on inverter and when you arrive change plug back and turn off inverter when you have shore power. Whatever works for you individually but at least some manufacturers give us the option to not run the frig on propane.
