I have stayed at 8 military campgrounds and rarely see anyone using a charcoal grill. Is there an "unwritten rule" about not using charcoal grills?

I use my little Webber quite a bit. Just gotta make sure all the coals are out before you dump it in the dumpster. I run my hand through the ashes just to make sure.

I'm with you Martin, we use a 'Smokey Joe' Weber alot. We also have a gas grill, just in case it's too windy, or we need it hot and ready in a hurry. The problem with most campgrounds, to inclode both military and commercial is they do not offer an ash dump container. We are currently at Ellsworth AFB, and I have asked the management if they will provide a container for the CG.

last summer for us all the areas were under a sever drought and burn ban
so lp grills were the only thing you could use.
one place had absolutely no grills, even LP one it was so dry. they closed the cg a bit later because the fire danger was so extreme.

I love my little webber, and wet ashes before dumping.
But.. it's so dirty to transport. The ash and charcoal dust fills the toolbox.. (grill was carried in a truck box tool box on the back bumper of the 5er..
