Just a note to say hello

Hi to all,
Most of the boards I have frequented in the past have some sort of welcome thread, but I didn't happen to see one. I just don't like dropping into conversations unannounced so I thought I should introduce myself.

I'm an active duty member of the Canadian Army and a new TT owner. My wife and two kids and I are looking forward to doing some touring around in the US Northeast this summer and and next so I thought this might be a good place to collect some info on family oriented parks that are safe for the kids. Military Campgrounds strike me as that kind of place. I'm not sure what access for Canadian military folks is available, but have never had any issues with booking other accomodations, so I'm optimistic.

I'm looking forward to talking with you all and sharing ideas and experiences.

Cheers,
JJ

Hello. I have a Military RV, Camping & Outdoor Recreation directory and have checked every listing for facilities in the U.S. and none say anything about Canadian military being authorized to use them. When I turn over too the Canada section, they all say that th U.S. military is authorized to use their facilities. Personnally, I have no problem with Canadians using American recreational facilities. I have used Canadian Recreational facilities in the past. But, I'm telling you that you are going to run into some stiff opposition on this site. There are some rude and crude people here and I'm sure that you'll soon hear from them. A topic on this subject was started almost 4 years ago and I couldn't beleive how rude some of these people are. I wouldn't worry about it too much as the same people are rude and crude to their fellow Americans. That's just the way they are. It's mine and you can't share it. Good luck and enjoy your travels. The Northeastern U.S. is a very beautiful place to visit.

Thanks for the heads up. I hope that it doesn't need to get that heated. My experiences with US military folks both while training in the US or Canada or even on overseas operations has always been positive. I can only hope that continues here.

Cheers,
JJ

Hi JJ and welcome!!

You won't find any listings on here about Canadian military eligibility at a campground....it seems to be left to the discretion of the local commander. I know of one for sure...Pointes West Army Resort in Appling, GA. A bunch of us meet up there every spring and one of the couples in our group are retired Canadian military. They stop by for a couple of weeks every year on their way home from spending the winter in Florida. I'd suggest that if you're interested in one of the US military campgrounds that you call ahead of time and see what their policy is. Can't hurt to ask!

The only thing wrong with being retired is that you never get a day off!

Can't say as I've heard too many rude and crude folks on here, or generally in the MCGs, so can't comment further on that post.

But, I have in the past met Canadian Military on occasion in the parks. Although I never asked "how come" so would guess it depends on base CO.

And as Sarge suggested, I'd contact any specific base and ask the MWR what the policy is for that base - and can tell you that if you ever camp next to me, I'll refrain the crude and offer you my paw to shake across the campfire ... hope you enjoy your trip...
