Shutdown and Base Famcamps was created by floridakamper
I'm hoping that the government shutdown will not affect base campgrounds. I have a reservation at Earle Naval Ammunition Depot tomorrow and it would really put me in a bad mood if I got there and they said the campground was closed. They normally have a MWR employee answer the phone and make reservations but he's not answering the phone today. The answering machine message is still the same so hopefully all will be well.

Got through to someone at the base and was told all MWR lodging facilities are open for business as of today.

Thanks so much for providing us with that info. We have reservations at a FamCamp too on Sunday and it will save me a phone call. Saw in the newspaper today campers in National Parks have 48 hours to leave the park, Larry are you in a National Park right now or anyone else there?

Yosemite is next door and they have closed all operations. However, they kept the gates open so people can drive through Yosemite.
UPDATE - 10/02/13: Things are still messed up. Now I'm being told that we "may" still close our USFS campgrounds and tell campers they need to leave. This is coming from the USDA. Geez!!!!!!

I'm not in a National Park, I manage US Forest Service campgrounds. Generally, concessionaire operated campgrounds are still open. We're a private company operating government property on a Special Use Permit. Campgrounds that the USFS operates themselves DID close.LamSan wrote: Thanks so much for providing us with that info. We are planning to stay at Joint Base San Antonio RV Park in a couple or weeks. We have no reservations. Do you know if they will be open, or for that part any and/or all other FamCamps?
thanks

Concessionaire operated NFS-CG at Tahoe on Hwy 89 is open today, host received orders to shut operations on Friday - even people here with paid reservations are getting kicked out ...
We just happened by here for an overnight heading to Death Valley - anyone in Death Valley know about how it will operate. Major highways run N-S and E-W in the park, so that can't be closed, but possibly the CG will be shut down? And, too many concessions in DV, so I'm not sure how that will happen ...
Yosemite closed everything down, but the highway is still open.
Imagine this - the revenue generating operations ($$$ millions from national parks) are shut down, so lose revenue, but the government offices in DC that SPEND money are still in operation.
Go figure that one out ... at least we got our retirement pay - guess Congress was afraid to piss off the veterans -
