Okay, after last winter and this winter I have about had it with our upper Midwest winters. :( Since I just retired from the military and the husband's job is somewhat portable, I've been thinking it would be nice to pack up the ponies and the puppies and head south for 2 or 3 months. I've looked at a few RV horse park type places but MAN are they expensive! I am wondering if any of you all know of any short term horse boarding places in say FL, LA, MS, TX that are near any of these bases with military campgrounds or campgrounds that have horse boarding available. ?? While I can't tell you which ones, many military bases do have equestrian stables. Barksdale AFB in Louisiana comes to mind. The stables aren't too far away from the famcamp.

KimR - Many Army and Air Force bases have stables, and even a few Navy/Marine bases have them. In our travels we have noticed that many are not of the highest quality, and most are full or nearly so. It would seem that most would not allow short term use, due primarily to the requirements of the base’s active duty folks need for stable use.
Should you have a particular base in mind, you should contact that base’s Force Support Group (FSS) for the AF, and the Services group for Army locations. Not sure who you would need to contact for Navy/Marine locations.
Good luck with your search,
John

I know Ft Huachuca in SE Az has stables nearby, but from what I understand they have some conditions for horses that must be met before intro to the area. Seems there are some requirements for vaccinations or something to keep disease down, so with this in mind I would think you would need to contact the local mwr and ask who to contact before trying to take the animals to the area.

This would apply to all I would think even private stables as animals may not have the same immunity in other areas

we were actually stationed at Barksdale for a bit for my husband's training. I know some used to have horse boarding but I think more and more have done away with it. The only one I have seen was a Navy base in Virginia I rode at.

Naval Station Guantanamo Bay Cuba had a stable when I was stationed there in the 80's but that probably isn't any help. Ocala and Citrus are popular areas for RVer's in Florida and that area is also "horse country." There are many commercial campgrounds at a reasonable rate and I suspect boarding would not be an issue.
