Sponsoring civilian guests to military campgrounds

I'm seeking some advice regarding my possibly sponsoring a relative, who's not ever served in the military nor worked for the federal government, into a military campground. Here's the "rub": this relative graduated high school in the late 60's &, as he was subject to the draft at that time (actually I've been told his was the first class subject to the lottery drawing & his birth date was the first # drawn!). This relative made the decision to apply for Conscientious Objector status, was approved & spend a period working in a hospital as an orderly. Never in the time that I've known him has he ever uttered anything I'd consider disparaging towards those who DID serve, but he does tend to socialize & speak freely. My concern is, as I've noticed that topic #1 at many military campgrounds I've stayed at is "What branch did you serve with?" or "When did you serve?", that the topic could come up &, as I'm a retiree after serving 28 years, I've know many folks who may not be comfortable with someone with the history of "C.O." staying at a military campground.

I understand I could simply say "keep your mouth shut", but I'm curious as to what others who post here might say on this subject? Am I making too much of this OR could I possibly be opening a big "can of worms" here? Thanks in advance for your input!

I wouldn't worry about his CO status. Sounds like he made a case to support that classification and was granted it. Someone might take exception but I don't think most would. During that time there were many "deserters" fleeing to Canada or some other way to illegally avoid serving. If he was occupying a spot that would go empty except for his presence as a guest, I'm OK with that. If a authorized user was turned away because of his presence, I'd have a problem with that.

Shouldn't be a problem - respond "I didn't serve. I'm visiting with a friend" end of discussion

BA24 & Kemper: appreciate your advice here! As I'd said I was thinking along the same lines, but I'd be concerned that someone might, for various reasons, make a big fuss: like do something that might embarrass a Base CC who was to allow "sponsored civilians" to camp at an otherwise "underutilized" campground. THANKS!!!

I sponsor a group every Nov and they are all civilians except 1. People ask and they say they are with me, they guy with the US and Marine Corp flag flying. Then it's just camping chit chat. No problems.

Once the "visiting camper" was entrenched in a campsite who would check to see if there were any such campers in the CG if an eligible camper were to wander in off the road and be turned away because the CG is now All Full? The "visitor" is there for the duration and no one is going to go to his/her site and ask them to now leave because there is a legitimate user waiting at the gate for a site.
