Give Tenters More Access was created by Thredbende
A previous discussion on Motorcycle/Tent camping stated that many RV posts forbid tent camping because they lack shower facilities. I have found this personally disappointing and unfair.
I am a car/tent camper who schleps a gigantic black baggy (solar hot water heater) for a shower or hot water. (It drapes over the hood of my parked car.) I wish I could camp at the no tent camping posts. As a retired Army Nurse, I promise to stay clean enough to not wilt the oak trees, nor cause alarm amounst the other campers with my shower arrangements. (Rope over branch-solar hot water bag from rope, upside down umbrella from rope, shower curtain from tips of umbrella, old woman inside shower curtain). Why don't they let us tent campers use the military camping skills we were born with?
Another aspect of this is the need for sanitary facilities. I will gladly pay the $16 per night to have access to an occasional
port a potty. Even I don't think it would be a good idea to dig latrine trenches!!! At least, not for recreational camping. Gosh, maybe some enterprising RVer could rent me shower facilities in their mansion for $5 or so once in a while! RVers, please help us light on the land types have access to a slightly flat 10 foot square someplace! I would gladly pay a deposit on the site, pending verification from the camp manager that they couldn't see that I had ever been there.
Kathy the part Chippewa, who never quite got out of the forest...

Loved your post. If you are ever camping where we are, you are welcome to use our facilities. Us old retired people need to stick together.

Refreshing to see an actual 'camper' in amonst the RV'er castles ... I spent lots of years in the tent world before 'moving up' (maybe up?, maybe parallel?) to a Truck Camper ... went through walking with tent (Age 14, too young to drive) to PU, to Van, and finally to TC as I age into the RV era.
I feel your pain with the shower issue -- and have spent many minutes under a 'black bag' in the forests as well. You can sit beside my campfire any time ... M44
I do believe some MCGs have tent sites though, just a matter of finding which ones ... some tell you on the menu if you go to the state MCG pages.

I know Ft Meade, in MD, allows tent campers. They have two bath house facilites, that are very nice. I have not used them, but have been told, they are clean and private. They also have rustic cabins they rent out.
