Hi Kathy, loved your post and want to thank you for serving as an Army Nurse. Not sure if you know about the Military Camping directory but if you do not have one I suggest you get one. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised how many MCG's do have designated tent sites. As one other person mentioned we also see many tents set up in MCG's that do not have designated tent sites and they have access to all facilities. Good Luck in finding your way around this great country of ours and as a Retired Army Nurse you especially know about sanitary conditions and I would stand up and defend you as you take a shower under your "make-shift shower". My husband is 100% disabled, retired army and he thanks you too for your service!

Ft. Stewart, GA...Holbrook Pond....has 20 sites just for tent camping.....location near bathouses, etc....and NAS Corpus Christi, TX has tenting area near bathouse....the only 2 places we've been in 5years of full-timing that haven't had a tenting area have been new campground at Gulfport, MS and Destin, Fl...

Spoke to Wright Patterson about another issue this week and asked about tenting..

Yes plenty of tent sites around the lake, by the office.

But.. (I couldn't make this up) tenters are not authorized use of the bathhouse they must drive to the gym to take a shower and use the porta potties in the picnic area.. or they can pay for a site in the RV area and then use the bath house.

Gotta say I side with the base on this one. The bath house is for the RV campground and it is not a public facility. Guess what happens if the base makes it public. The camp hosts will be cleaning up a much larger mess and the RV campers, who have paid for the privilege of using the facility, will be waiting in line.

Being in the great outdoors with your family or by yourself should be your decision and should have access to use all Military Campgrounds whether you are in a tent or Motorcycle tent. It is all about enjoying your benefits as a veteran or a serving Service member to enjoy the great outdoors. The Military Campgrounds could learn a thing or two from the KOAs and their sites they have for all form of tent campers. Also the identification for the military camp grounds say "FamCamp" not Recreational Vehicle Campgrounds.
