Base Stickers

Base Stickers was created by sdianel
we've been to many, many military bases of all kinds. Today we tried to enter Kings Bay Submarine Base, St. Marys GA and were told we had to have a new sticker. They made us wait while they issued us 2 temp. passes and we had to provide proof of ins and registration for both vehicles. Tomorrow we're going to the ID office to get 2 new stickers (NAVY!)
MacDill AFB in Tampa stopped issuing stickers and said we no longer needed them. Until today we didn't. We had old MacDill AFB stickers on both vehicles and they made us scrape them off. Seems you can no longer enter their base if you have an expired sticker. Just thought I'd let everyone know about this new policy. We don't mind getting a new sticker, just wish the policy was military wide. Go NAVY! We're in site F5 if anyone is here. Semper Fi.

There's another thread on this very subject...lots of info and advise....AF is the only one that doesn't issue stickers. Everyone else requires them....

Yep, it's the AF that is out of step with the rest of the services. Our nearest base is an AF base and they also quit issuing the stickers. We've had to replace the windshield on the coach so we don't have a base sticker. Will have to stop at the first Navy, Marine or Army base I come to and get a new sticker for the coach.

So far the Air Guard Base in Bangor, Maine will still issue base stickers to those of us who are Retired only, all others they won't. Don't know how long this will be the SOP.
26-05-09 Update:
today I tried to get a sticker for my truck. I was told that when their supply ran out that was it. I was told by the E-6 at the gate that Air Force was just doing what the DoD ordered and that the other branchs of the Armed forces would be told to get on board period.

Its not the AF is outta step,,Its a DOD directive and the other services have not adopted or opted to comply.. FYI I just went into the Pass and ID told them I went to other bases frequently and they issued a sticker for RV MC and POV. no problem..Both Kings Bay and Ft. Campbell would allow me to register my veh's if I requested.

We have current base stickers, on our car and motorhome. My husband accidentally scraped a small potion off when getting snow off our car. We were at Kings Bay, and was told by the guard, we should replace it. I was surprised, because know where else has ever brought it up, because everything that is necessary is still on the sticker. I am wondering if Kings Bay, is far more annal about stickers or just hyper diligent. I know at one base they barely look at our ID cards, which makes me feel very uncomfortable, with the security at this base.
